Ms Molly arrived december 8, 2008 at 9:41 pm weighing 7lbs 12 oz and 19 1/2 inches long. As most of you know, I had wanted to experience a "natural birth" and was seeing a midwife throughout my pregnancy. Praise God, I was able to deliver Molly without being induced and without epidural or pain medication...felt it ALL! :) It was all very fast and intense but no complications but a beautiful healthy little girl erased all that. I had 5 wonderful people in the delivery room with me making it all possible, my doctor, my midwife, my dear friend Molly, an amazing labor nurse Elizabeth and my wonderful husband. We had wanted the kids to be present for the birth, however, decided it was probably a little too scary for them, the way mom was handling things, so they came in just after Molly was delivered Joshua was even able to cut the umbilical cord after 4 tries! It was a very special experience and I am so thankful Molly K was able to capture some amazing moments on camera.

"Shark Teeth"

So it only took him 1 week to the day to accomplish his mission! Last Sunday as I was brushing Joshua's teeth, I noticed he was developing a "second row of teeth"! The baby teeth had not come out and the big teeth were already coming in behind them. So I told Joshua that he would need to get busy wiggling those teeth and get them out or we would have to go to the dentist and have them pulled! That' s all I needed to say. Last night as I was at work he called me to tell me he had already pulled one of the teeth and was excited to see what the "tooth fairy" would leave him! Too bad the tooth fairy did not have time to get change.... as you can see, she was quite generous and left him a whole $5 bill!! We had to go to Walmart today and spend his money. He is already planning what he will buy when he gets the next tooth out! He will be quite disappointed to learn that the tooth fairy only leaves such a generous amount for the first tooth!

First Day of Kindergarten

Joshua and Miss Cammack

Olivia wanted to stay!

Joshua was very brave! Didn't cry or ask me to stay!
Mom wasn't so brave:(

So we're on our way to Joshua's first day of school talking about all the neat things he will learn.... writing his letters, reading, making new friends.... and he interrupts me and says.. "yea, and I heard on the radio that a boy learned to burp the alphabet!" I quickly told him that would probably NOT be anything they would teach him in kindergarten:) He had a great first day and luckily I was the first person to ask him the popular "So what did you do on your first day of school?" I got every detail. Funny though, by the end of the day when "Aunt T T" asked him the same question he said, "Read a book and lots of stuff..." As we were coming home from school he informed me that they really didn't have any toys at school unlike when he was in preschool. He said, "I don't think they wanted us to play." When I questioned him why he thought that he replied, "I think they want us to do a lot of learning and not very much playing". He has been very excited for the last year for school to start and now that he has had a little taste of it, he's not so sure about "going to school every day that daddy goes to work". Olivia missed him and was happy to see him when we went to pick him up. Mommy missed him too. It was a quiet morning!

bedtime and buddies

something so routine, all the sudden seems so "sacred". sleeping babies, now growing up... how much longer will they ask for their buddies at bedtime? how i want to treasure these years, even as i am tired and long for a "break", i dread that all too common sentiment spoken by so many parents... "where has the time gone"? i am sure i am feeling even more sentimental on the eve of my "little guy's" first day of kindergarten! i know it's only 3 hours a day and he will love it, but i find myself wondering... have i made the most of these years at home with him? have i prepared him for what lies ahead? will he be the leader or follow the leader? will he be the class clown or the teacher's pet? will he miss me??? okay... so i'm rambling. i guess all these bedtime contemplations remind me to appreciate each day and each little quirk that all too quickly fade over the years. so the next time i see my little olivia "sucking" her fingers, as i admonish her to "get those fingers out of your mouth", i will also burn the image in my memory, only to recall with longing as i wonder "where has the time gone"?
